The Origins of Sonndr

Sonder, Noun. (uncountable) (neologism) The profound feeling of realizing that everyone, including strangers passing in the street, has a life as complex as one's own, which they are constantly living despite one's personal lack of awareness of it.

Sonndr is the passion project of Rakgwedi, Ashtone, and Liam. Drawing inspiration from days driven by the kick of an Americano, the founders of Sonndr wanted to integrate the lifestyle that comes with coffee culture with their own personal touch. As the name suggests, Sonndr is intended to be a hub in which individuals of all walks of life get entangled in the same space, embodied by the concept of coffee but driven by the notion of community.

Every step taken inside the café is intended to be an experience – from the smells of the beans being ground and finely extracted to an aromatic presence holding the shop together, to the fragrance of the incense that greets you at the entrance. You can view some of the progress shots down below.

Though the experience of Sonndr is constantly in the works and is directed by you who brings your own personality into it, as we slowly approach warmer weather, it is worth reminiscing on the origins of the space we’ve occupied at 1068 Dundas Street W.
